Greetings to all members of the Newton Corner Neighborhood Association!
I hope you’ve all had a most enjoyable (albeit a bit soggy) summer and are looking forward to the change of seasons and all that will bring.

If you are interested in an up-to-date report on any of the following issues:

    • Teacher Contract Negotiations

     • Zoning ReformsNewton Village Centers and the MBTA Communities Law

     • Department of Transportation Study of Traffic Flow in Newton Corner

Since we are committed to keeping the meeting length to one hour, we will not be able to explore the agenda items in depth. All relevant back-up information will be posted on our website for your review. Please go to newtoncornerneighborhood.com for a thorough analysis of the impact of the proposed zoning reforms on village centers, as well as more information on teacher negotiations and the progress (or lack of it) on improving traffic flow around the Newton Corner rotary.

Commissioner Nicole Banks and Councilor Maria Scibelli-Greenberg will join us. Councilors Alison Leary and John Oliver will be attending a Zoning and Planning Committee meeting.

1.  Commissioner Banks will report on the funding for repainting the Chaffin House and repairing the basin in the Farlow Park Pond.

2.  Councilor Maria Scibelli Greenberg will address the issues of 41 Washington Street, the Community Garden, and the Department of Transportation’s task force on traffic flow in Newton Corner.

3.  Alison Lobron of the Parent/Educator Collaborative will present an overview of the current state of negotiations between the Newton School Committee and the Newton Teachers Association.

4A.  To introduce the discussion on Zoning Reform, Robin Boger will present descriptive statistics prepared by John Oliver that analyze housing density in Newton Corner.

4B.  Richard Rasala will present an overview of the two ongoing zoning initiatives—MBTA Communities Law and Village Center Zoning.  How do (or do not) these initiatives overlap, and what do the proposed revisions mean for Newton going forward?  If there is interest, we will hold another Zoom meeting to discuss the proposed revisions in greater detail on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m.

5). Growing NCNA: Lastly, the meeting will conclude with a statement recognizing that the larger we become, the better we can advocate for our community. To that end, we would welcome ideas for recruiting new members by networking with ALL of Newton Corner. Also, we repeat our request for a “Facebook facilitator” to grow our presence by posting about NCNA to Facebook groups in Newton.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Warm regards,

Robin Z Boger
